University of Wyoming Bus Maintenance Facility

Laramie, WY

Located in the heart of Laramie, Wyoming you will find the University of Wyoming. The University of Wyoming offers Rustic Wyoming surroundings and cutting-edge learning facilities.

In 2020, the University of Wyoming received $4.2 million to construct a new bus maintenance and storage facility. The new facility replaced an obsolete facility that was more than 70 years old.

The first step in replacing the bus maintenance facility was to rehabilitate the pavement. Originally the University planned to mill and overlay the existing asphalt, however, they encountered thin layers of asphalt on site. As a result, additional information was required to inventory site conditions and to provide supplemental pavement recommendations. Inberg-Miller Engineers cored the existing pavement at ten locations and performed DCP (dynamic cone penetrometer) testing at each location. Based on the results of the subsurface exploration, IME recommended a full reconstruction of the pavement section. And because of the variable subgrade conditions encountered with DCP testing, overexcavation and replacement with structural fill was also recommended to create a more uniform bearing surface for pavement sections.

Once construction of the pavement and bus maintenance facility began, IME provided concrete and asphalt testing, soil densities, and special inspections including rebar and bolt inspections.
