Hog Park and Rob Roy Dams

We worked with the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities for five years on this project. During that time, we monitored the performance and stability of two major earth fill dams: Hog Park and Rob Roy Dams. Hog Park is a 120-foot-high earth dam that is 26 miles south of Encampment, while Rob Roy is a 140-foot-high earth dam located 50 miles west of Laramie, Wyoming.

During this period, we collected and reviewed data from piezometers, inclinometers, movement monuments, drain outflows, visual inspections, and embankment stability analyses. A number of the piezometers used were equipped with continuous pressure transducers, while the drains were equipped with flow meters. These instruments were connected with the dam’s information and control system and provided information in real-time to engineers in Cheyenne. Annual reports described the performance of the embankments, provided conclusions regarding their stability, and recommended improvements in instruments and safety monitoring.

Tribal Irrigation Rehabilitation

We repaired or replaced seven irrigation structures on the Wind River Reservation in Fremont County, Wyoming. These structures included fish ladders and fish screens. We did initial site investigations for each, then followed that up with surveying to create a topographic map. We then surveyed cross sections of the rivers and canals to gather data for hydraulic analysis, conducted a subsurface exploration, and created a geotechnical report. We then looked at each structure, performing hydraulic evaluations, designing replacement structures, and preparing construction plans and specifications. Our team participated in project meetings, and prepared cost estimates and bid schedules.
