There are some changes we experience that make a person wonder how we ever did it before. Communication technology, and smart phones especially, is one of those. Like many companies that operate all over the expansive Rocky Mountain West, Inberg-Miller Engineers finds changes in the way we communicate has had a profound impact on our business and how we serve our clients.
Safety and project management are things we can say are clearly better with the improvements in communication. Expanded cell phone coverage and internet access has made a vast change for the better. Our field personnel who often work remotely can check-in more often, receive notifications instantly, get help and hazard information, quickly find services and parts suppliers from the field, arrange emergency rentals, check road and weather conditions etc. Along with that of course goes making on the spot scope revisions, immediately informing clients of changed conditions, and sending and receiving all manner of documentation, photos, links, and videos via the phone to work out problems even though the folks involved can be hours apart. One recent small example is an adjustment in a test boring location to avoid buried utilities…precisely made and agreed to by field and office personnel simply by texting a marked-up aerial image. Such applications are common-place now, but not long ago were impossible, creating unclear, confusing, costly, inefficient, time consuming and even risky circumstances.
Inberg-Miller Engineers continues to expand and improve the services we bring to our industry through many new and exciting technological improvements in addition to better communication. We’d love to share them with you.
